Lethal Force fails to get better rating despite solid July Cup run – Horseracing news
Lethal Force has been unable to earn better ratings despite a magnificent performance in the July Cup, where he defeated Society Rock comfortably.
Racing Post handicapper Paul Curtis said, “Lethal Force showed himself to be the leading European sprinter with his success in the July Cup, and while a Racing Post Rating of 124 does not elevate him to star sprinter status it does at least back up his Diamond
Jubilee performance. It is notable that Lethal Force has managed to put back-to-back Group 1 victories together.”
He added, “Society Rock had not excelled at Newmarket in the past - Saturday's run rates a length off his best RPR of 122 - and it is possible that he will get closer to the winner on a more suitable track.”
Both the quality horses went against each other in a recently concluded race at Newmarket, but they were not given the best odds for victory. They were still rated quite highly though and a lot of punters gambled money in their favour.
However, Lethal Force was the one, who ended up dominating the six furlong event, which had a prize money of £283,550. This was the second consecutive victory for the four-year-old colt at the highest level, which would have made his camp proud. He was not
a consistent winner, thus his strike rate is not on the higher side.
However, things have started moving in the positive direction for him since the start of this year and he has really been competitive against the best in the business. He started off the season with a runner up spot at York, where he almost snatched a victory
against his main rival Society Rock. He ended up being short by a head distance, but did not give up hope and took on his opponent in another couple of races afterwards.
First the pair battled out at the Royal Ascot, where Lethal Force was victorious by a couple of lengths, proving that he had improved his performance significantly. In order to confirm that his solid run was not a one-off, he ran at Newmarket, once again
taking on Society Rock and beating him comprehensively.
