Question:

Lethal Injection? The Electric Chair?

Why do they use implements such as these since they are expensive to use anyway? Why not give the prisoner a cyanide capsule or some kind of drug in his meal? I don't understand why the person who receives the death sentence has to know the exact day of his death. Understand what I'm trying to say. I lost a brother who was murdered by his best friend. I hated this man but I didn't want him to suffer even tho I wanted him gone. He only received a 20 year sentence from what I remember (I was a small child when he was shot) and my father took it very hard. I think it caused him to pass away earlier than he should have. The point I'm trying to make is shouldn't the death sentence be quick and painless ie cyanide capsule and why would the criminal justice system allow someone to languish for so many years in prison then finally kill them. If that's not a form of torture then what is? Thanks for your answers.

  1. The only form of execution that anyone has ever come up with that is quick and painless is hanging, and that only if it done correctly.

The responder who said that cyanide is one of the most painful ways to die was correct.  Where he slipped is to say that lethal injection is not painful.  Lethal injection is cyanide poisoning.  The anesthetic (paralytic) given to the executed before the cyanide injection only makes it SEEM peaceful.  A morphine overdose would be much more humane.

I am sad to hear about your brother and the suffering of your family, but encouraged to hear about your lack of vengeful emotions.  There is no room in justice for emotive reactionaryism.  Not many people demonstrate your level of maturity.  Thank you.

  2. I believe executions serve two purposes. To be rid of this criminals shadow and like your other question.. act as a deterent to other criminals contemplating a similar act. Just bring out the 'ol guillotine have gatherings in public.. This would serve both purposes quite well.

  3. Pain and suffering, truly languishing in sheer agony, is the only way for justice.

The eighth amendment MUST be rewrote and void out the cruel and unusual punishment part. The only way to halt murders ,is for a true penalty to be paid, if one is commited.

  4. "Why do they use implements such as these since they are expensive to use anyway? "

Why spend any money at all?  Give the dirty dogs to the families they injured and don't spend anything.  Better yet - charge vindictive non-lawbreakers and make money.

"I don't understand why the person who receives the death sentence has to know the exact day of his death."

Due Process requires that a person know all teh details that will affect his life, freedom and well-being.  Who knows how a defendant would ahve acted or responded had he known that tomorrow was his last day?

"He only received a 20 year sentence from what I remember"  Not trying to belittle your loss, but what sentence would have made you happy.  I'll take it as a given that 20 year would have beaten a 10 year term, and death more than that - but in absolte terms what really would satisfy you?  I suspect that the answer is really - nothing.  Which explains why murder is so terrible, it leaves a gaping hole in you that can't be filled.

"The point I'm trying to make is shouldn't the death sentence be quick and painless ie cyanide capsule"

Have you ever seen somebody die of cyanide?  Qucik yes - painless, likely not.  But othe other hand, what's the point of the process being quick anyway?  Maybe it should be long drawn out - you really provide no reason to think one way or another.  One reason for its length is that the condemned has a right to challenge the factual or legal basis that's bringing his life to an end.  So, we kill a guy and find out that the 1) confession was coerced, 2) the physical evidence was botched, 3) some other guy confessed to the crime and there was physical evidence making a stronge rlink to that other guy than the guy who went to death row.  (Maybe the other guy was a relative of the Kennedys.)

When you argue for shortening the process, are you really keeping the prisoner's best interest's in mind?  Are you really worried about whether this will torture him, or you?

  5. Well in the past there was many ways that many people would have been killed like a Guitaine but mahy said it was to grusome, than came the gas chamber, to many said it took to fast, then there was the electric chair and some times it took about 7 jolts to kill someone, then came lethal injection. Lethal injection worls in 7 steps where it stops piece by piece each part of the body from movement to blindness.

And the reason that they stay in prison then get kiled is because they have to suffer at least something. If a murdered killed my gf, my son, and my family i would want him or her to suffer for life in jail and have a painfull death

  6. I say bullet to the head with a .357.  That would be someone painless and cheep as well.

  7. Nobody EVER escaped from a graveyard!  I'd like to be in charge of executions....  here's my plan.  Make a rocket sled, put a nice comfy chair on it and at the end of a three mile track put a huge granite mountain....  Give the scum-wad a bag of chips and tell him have a nice life...  Then when he's all un-expecting, accelerate the rocket sled to 4,453 feet per second and let it ride for 2 miles and 5,270 feet.  When it reaches that distance, stop the rocket sled.  Viola, instant painless non-existance.  No MESS to clean up either.  That impact wil pretty much vaporize anything.

  8. Electric Chair and Lethal Injection are both painless when administered correctly. The reason most inmates spend so long on Death Row is because they keep appealing their sentence. If they wanted to let it go and just face their punishment, I'm pretty sure they never spend more than a year in prison waiting.

  9. a cyanide capsule is one of the most painful ways to die.Lethal Injection so far,is the most humane way to kill a person today.
