Leticia Lelli wins three gold medals at the 2011 Arizona Invitational Swimming Championships
Leticia Lelli of SDA-AZ has won three gold medals on day three of the 2011 Arizona Invitational Swimming Championships on Monday, May 30. The session included the finals of the 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100m back-stroke and the 400m Individual Medley
(IM) for the Women’s category of 15 years of age and above.
The session instigated with the Women’s 100m butterfly, where the fastest qualifying swimmer Leticia Lelli won her first gold medal of the evening, by clocking a time of 1:02.71 minutes. Ford Aquatics-AZ’s Alyssa Anderson, who qualified as the second fastest
swimmer, was almost two seconds slower and earned the silver medal in a time of 1:04.17 minutes. They were followed by Bri Jurries of Gmsc-AZ, who secured the bronze medal in a time of 1:04.27 minutes.
Next was the 200m freestyle final, where 17-year-old Leticia, demonstrated her stupendous swimming by occupying her second gold medal of the evening, clocking a time of 2:06.56 minutes. She was 0.26 seconds away from her following swimmer, Cassie Morrice,
who followed her on the podium for the silver medal, by touching the wall in 2:06.82 minutes. The 16-year-old Sam Harding of WILD-NM followed them on the podium for the bronze medal, by posting a time of 2:08.68 minutes.
In the 100m back-stroke final, Lelli captured her third gold medal of the evening, by producing a remarkable time of 1:06.15 minutes. Michell Chintanaphol of NAC-SE and Kelly Harrigan of MAC-AZ followed her on the finishing wall, by posting a time of 1:06.70
and 1:07.16 minutes for the silver and bronze medal, respectively. Jessica Ashley-Cooper of FORDU-AZ stayed only 0.50 seconds away from Harrigan and settled fourth on the finishing wall for posting a time of 1:07.66 minutes.
The final event of the session was the 400m IM, where WILD-NM’s Sam Harding conquered the gold medal for her irresistible effort of 5:04.77 minutes. Harding was comfortably away from her closest competitor, Lindsay Seemann of FORDU-AZ, who touched the wall
for the silver medal with a time of 5:07.81 minutes.
The third spot on the podium was secured by NAC-SE’s Michell Chintanaphol, who won the bronze medal in 5:08.22 minutes. Chintanaphol was only 0.05 seconds faster than her following swimmer, Morgan Flynn of NAC-SE, who completed her swim to secure the fourth
fastest spot, with a timing of 5:08.27 minutes.
The session concluded after the Women’s events, while the arena showed their appreciation to the participants for their spectacular swims. In addition, Leticia was very happy with her triple gold performance and said that she will work hard to excel in the
future.
