Lets do away with religion?

Question

There are people all over the world fighting over religion which promotes segregation.

Why don't people believe in themselves for good not books written by man.

People laugh at tribes in south america worshiping the god of thunder,lighting, earthquake's, volcanoes and the sun, because they don't yet no how these things happen, how different are we today, please answer and not with scripts that have been written by somebody from your book of worship, but by yourself as a person?

The problem does not lie, in Bibles, beliefs, guns, money, knives, constitutions, bullets or borders.  These things can do no harm without the desires and hands of man.

The problem is in the hearts of men.  It is the depravity in each of us that leads us to so much suffering.

Burn all the books you want, but it is only when you change the hatred in the hearts of men to love that you will realize the change you are looking for.

You may believe that you are a perfectly moral and good person and you have no need for a religion.  But you are mistaken to believe that everyone would be moral without religion.

Without Christ I am a wholey dastardly and selfish person.  Without Christ I have no need of moral considerations.  Without God I would not consider what is good or evil, only what I want, and how best to take it.

first of all these holy books are written by god.ppl have changed the content of each of them except for the quraan.it's plain stupid to worship any god other than allah which is the only god.it's true that some ppl think that the world would be a better place without religion but it's actually the opposite.if we don't have rules to follow we would be like animals the world would be in chaos.the answer is for every1 just leave each other alone.i'm a muslim and personally i  consider u as a christian or jew or catholic my brother or sister.

Half the world was forced to live under atheism. And millions died.  History proves it. The term "world" doesn't necessarily mean the whole earth, as in "Third World". The communist world was a world w/o religion.

Wrong again. There is no morality w/o religion. Once you take away the divine retribution, you take away the reason to be moral. People then become  capable of doing the kinds of things the communists did. That was the point.

Wrong again. More died under the atheists and in a shorter time span.

Plus, if atheism is so moral and and atheists are supposeldy so much smarter than any theist...including the awful xtians...it should have never happened in the first place.

The Original question was, "Lets do away with religion? " and my question is how, by killing everyone? Will you kill me? My wife? My famly?

There were 3 Jews alone I can think of that won in 2007. Al Gore won, and he's a Christian. I think you'll find the percentage of theists much higher.

theyre not fighting over religion there are clouding peoples mind with religion its all a big cover to make people believe and die for a few mens greed. if you got rid of religion wed only find something else to fight about. watch the south park episodes go god go it maybe offensive to some but alot of the time it has a good message to ti aswell as being very funny

            This world has moved increasingly away from God and faith in God... Every day you read of someone taking some action or filing some law suit to try and take God out of our society one way or another . Every day you also read of the increasing problems that plague our world . Murder, Rape, Poverty, sickness and disease, wars. If it is indeed true what your saying about religion being the cause of a great deal of trouble or violence in the world . Then why as we move away from faith in God have things gotten worse ? Should they not be getting better ? Could it be we are moving away from the answer to the problems that plague us ? Being a Christians I can tell you for sure most deffinitely we are....Also, I am not aware of how old you are. But for some reason this younger generation seems to have forgotten men such as Carl Marx , Joseph Stallin and Adolph hitler. These men had a great hatred for faith in God and were the very deffintion of evil . Their Ideologies and evil empires brought more blood shed and violence in this century alone then all the previous centuries combined . Liberal professors in Universities brain washing our youth today seem to sweep these facts under the table while at the same time spoon feeding our kids the liberal garbage that is breaking down the morrality of this world. .. You can not believe  in God if you want, but I think if you take a very close unbiased look at history you will easily conclude that faith in God has restored and built  free empires that respect human life and rights while at the same time fighting against those that don't... Yes, people have been fighting over religious beliefs for as long as the world contained humans.  They have also fought over power and greed.  Deep down, I believe, a human has a sense that there is a power beyond themselves.  The laws written into religious books are really guidelines.  Since they are written by humans, they mistakenly try to humanize the spiritual nature of creation.  How can you humanize creation itself?  When we get down to basics, the laws of love make for a happier life.  Even ancient tribes had a taboo for choices that would affect the tribe badly. Unfortunately, we all have free choice and that means we are subject to everyone else's free choice.  Make choices that allow you to feel good about yourself. That's religion to me.

All of us were created to worship.  Some of us don't know God so we substitute with whatever things we deem worthy of our praise.  The fightings and killings over religion came as a result of our 'intolerance' to people whose beliefs differ from ours.  

About books written by man, the dictionary was written by man, I don't read about anyone bashing the authors. The books we are taught from at our institutions of learning are written by man, we still quote them when it pleases us.

The Word of God was sent to us by God and faith in it, irrespective of its earthly authors, saves lives.

OK, I'll still be an atheist, then because that's what I am.

I guess what you're saying is you don't want to do away with religion if we can all be what we want. That's good. My wife, daughters, family members, friends, acquaintances, etc. are Christians and I would die to defend their Constitutional rights. I served 2 years in the army in fact.

Part of being a grown up means you tolerate what the other guy says, even if you don't agree with it.

I wouldn't want someone to force me to be any religion, and  I wouldn't want to force them to be atheists either.
