Let’s give TPC a chance shall we

The AT&T Championship was recently held at the Oak Hills Country Club and completed its 9 year long hosting privileges this Sunday. According to the latest reports, The AT&T Championship has now shifted to the AT&T Canyons at TPC
San Antonio and it seems as though players aren’t very happy about it.
Mike Stevens, the Champions Tour president knows the venue has changed but is also familiar with the anxiety level a number of players are experiencing. After the change of venue was announced some players complained against the
action but Stevens has stuck to favouring the TPC Canyons and has asked everyone to give the new site a chance.
The Oaks hill Country Club is an A.W. Tillinghast designed club that consists of a total of 6,735 yards, the new venue on the other hand, AT&T Canyons, is designed by the renowned architect Pete Dye and is listed at 7,406 yards.
According to Stevens, something new is always considered difficult. He said that just because the site is new does not mean that it’s not good and not up to the mark as the previous course.
Due to the recent change in the venue, a significant number of players have become agitated by the thought of a new course and are of the notion that since it’s a new course there is bound to be something wrong with it. This was
recognized at the previous AT&T tournament held at the Oak Hills by Stevens.
“I honestly don't acknowledge this type of thinking at all.”
The Champions Tour has been operating in San Antonio for 26 years and concluded its nine-year run after the last round of the AT&T event on Sunday.
Lee Trevino, a hall of fame player, considers everything garbage. He said that the management is completely ruining the play because everything that’s built today is plain garbage, and there is no question about it.
Another Hall of Famer Larry Nelson considers the new courses boring and long. He said that the new courses have the typical play element, where length is more important than accuracy. Nelson believes that there is a difference
of opinion and vision between the PGA, the USGA and the Tour. He said that both of them are going in two different directions.
Of course some have positive views about Canyons, it's location in far north Bexar County, and it's undulating and scenic views of the Hill Country have appealed to many.
However, Bruce Lietzke who is the designer and the player consultant said that it has always been about golf with AT&T and this time it’s no exception. The Canyons is located in the far north Bexar County and is adjacent to a 700-acre
nature preserve.
