Let’s move on from Pietersen’s one-day retirement, says Alastair Cook – Cricket News Update
England’s ODI skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 admitted on Thursday that Kevin Pietersen’s retirement from the one day format of International cricket has created a huge void in England’s limited-overs side, however he was hopeful that youngsters will fill the gap
quickly.
In his Metro column, Cook said that he was surprised and disappointed by Kevin Pietersen’s untimely retirement call, but as a one-day captain he respects KP’s decision and is now looking forward to move on and build a team for the next ICC Cricket
World Cup, to be jointly held in Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in 2015.
"This is the path he wishes to take and as captain of the one-day team I've got to move on and plan for the next World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2015,” said the 27-year-old Gloucester-born left-handed batsman.
Kevin Pietersen, the 34-year-old South Africa-born England batsman bid farewell to international one-day cricket last week, bringing to an end a seven-year-long ODI career. For many, what was more surprising was the timing of his retirement, as the decision
comes just a couple of months before the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 will be defending its title. Keeping in view KP’s contribution in England’s title clinching campaign in the previous edition in 2010, it is being speculated that his retirement
could prove to be a huge blow.
Cook however, is not fazed by speculations that September’s World T20 campaign might be affected by Pietersen’s absence, and is instead focusing on the next 50-over mega event, scheduled to take place in 2015.
"We have a group of players who can develop into world-class players,” said the left-handed hard hitting opener, who has been leading England from the front with the bat over the past couple of years. “So in terms of the next 50-over World Cup we have plenty
of time to come up with new plans and bed in new players as we look to replace Kev," he added further.
The day http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 announced retirement, a couple of young England batsmen played big knocks for their respective counties, something which Cook would see as a good sign for the future.
"It was timely that on the day Kev announced his retirement, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 on Monday,” the ODI skipper wrote in his column.
Though KP has announced retirement from the one-day format of international cricket, he will still be available for selection in the Test team.
