Lets say your email was hacked into and you know who it was can you get them prosecuted or what deal?

so someone can get prosecuted for that crime, but that type of crime must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

  1. In the U.S. intentional email hacking is a felony.  


  2. Everything has to be convicted by a reasonable doubt.  Do you have solid proof to back up you claim as to who did it.  It is not a legal action, but don't see how one would be prosecuted from it.

  3. Criminal prosecutors have the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

    Civil plaintiffs have a different burden of proof:  Preponderance of the evidence.

    In your instance, it would be a criminal prosecution. Without solid proof, a prosecutor will not press charges.
