  1. Dora, The Magic School Bus, Super Why, Sesame Street, Curious George. My kids also love to watch the Food Network. They don't watch any of the night time stuff on Nickelodeon, which is why they like the Food Network. To the education major, it was about 15 degrees where I live outside time is not really possible or fun. I like them to watch things where they might learn something. Sometimes they need some down time and as a parent I do too.

  2. well.

    there is

Dora,Arthur,Dragon Tales,Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,Winnie The Pooh,Deigo, try Nick Jr. channel they have good tv shows,

    andd Sesame streets.

these are good because, kids know them and they are not violent. Also these are all educational

  3. Children can learn things from television.  The problem is the time is not reflective, it is controlled by the time of the television show (and not the child's time) and causes attention span issues.  While it's clearly harmful for attention span, in moderation, you should be fine because other things you are doing build up attention span.

I would never tell a parent to not have a television.  I know my children will have one when I am a parent.

That said, there are many great television shows for children.  I would start by looking at PBS shows, as they all have an educational goal to them at least.  See which ones you think will benefit your child.

You got some good suggestions from the others.

Studies are correct, though, that television will not teach as much as adult interaction and that television shortens attention spans.  Be sure to keep it in moderation and focus on other learning as your main avenue.

  4. Let me start by mentioning that I am a child development Major.  So you can probably guess what I am going to say, but listen...

There have been studies where children will watch a learning activity on tv, and then have ateache teach them the exact same thing.  The don't remember anything from the tv.  Yea, they can remember the things that are repeated over and over again, like the songs...but they aren't really learning.

Get down at eye level with your child, and you do the activity with them.  And if you don't have time, and you are using the tv to kinda get a break in...well the tv is not a babysitter.  Anything is a better babysitter than that!!  Hiw about a good old fashion coloring book and a box of crayons?  That is a lot more educational.  Children do not learn the same way adults do.  they learn through play, imitation of the things that they see, and experience.  They learn by moving, and getting involved.

So turn the tv off, and let them go outside and climb a tree. Just that one experience will teach them so much more than hours of tv combined!

  5. I'm doubting the "child development major" has children.

My son likes Dora, Diego, and Little Einsteins.  And, he does learn from them.  One day he kept saying something to me over and over again, and it was only the next day that I realized he was telling me in Spanish (which I don't know) what he wanted!

  6. My daughter loves to watch animal planet, the science channel, discovery channel. These aer very educational and helps her for homeschool.

As for cartoons, she likes the old ones on boomerang. Also some on cartoon network. They are not violent or have bad language.

She watches these on her own, these are not the ones I MAKE her watch. She has made good choices. She is 9.

I will NOT let her watch ANY of the 'fighting' cartoons or the shows that glamorize teens, like Zoey, Icarly or all that c**p.

  7. My little brother used to watch really violent shows on tv, and he was aggressive at school and at home.

When we blocked these channels, he had to watch better childrens programs and he changed COMPLETELY

  8. Sesame Street, Dora, Diego, Little Einsteins - all educational and entertaining with no violence - yes

Sponge Bob, Power Rangers - all too violent - no
