I sent my boyfriend a card and put some earphones in them that i had borrowed and he needed them back. I sent it Friday and its now Wednesday and it hasnt arrived to him. I only sent it 1st class normal because i havent ever had any trouble with Royal Mail. Is there anyway i can find out what happened? Or complain to them?

  1. Find out the tracking number call customer service and ask when and where was the last scan. Maybe its late because it was a holiday weekend. (4th of July) It will be there soon dont worry.

  2. You cant track an item in the post if it isnt recorded or special delivery unfortunately.

I suggest you buy him some more!

  3. are you in london, with royal mail? and it cuold take longer to arrive.

  4. With 1st class postage Royal Mail aims to deliver within 1 working day, it shouldn't matter where you are in the UK.

Unless you have proof of postage (the Post Office will give you a receipt on request) you can't claim.

So either it's been delayed by inefficiency or it's been lost.

One other solution might be have you put enough postage on the envelope?  You say you put ear phones in the envelope, did you take the card & ear phones to the post office to be weighed?  How many stamps did you put on the envelope?  The heavier the envelope, the more it will cost to post.

If you haven't put enough postage on the envelope they'll either re-classify it as second class & send it his nearest sorting office and notify your boyfriend that he needs to pay additional postage to collect his item.

  5. If you have no tracking number then it will be impossible. I would have sent them in a padded envelope and got it sent recorded.

I have had several letters go astray this year alone. Not sure what's going on with Royal Mail at the mo but many of my friends have also experienced problems with letters / parcels not arriving.

  6. call them up or somthing

  7. it could turn up yet. Royal mail will not even consider it lost for 15 working days (approx 3 weeks)

you will need to claim from RM, you might be lucky and get a pay-out if you can prove the value of the lost item, or they might just send you a pack of stamps.

give it a few more days, and as you don't have any tracking infomation (not sent recorded or special deliver) you are at the mercy of RM.

  8. Sometimes mail will get lost in the system and they will have to redirect it. It's happened to me before.

  9. You can complain to your local sorting office, and both of you fill out a lost mail report form, but if it was by standard mail I don't hold out much hope of you getting much joy.

    Sorry,

  10. That's the problem with regular 1st and 2nd class post - you have absolutely zero proof you posted the item and therefore the Post Office won't give you any money back.

Always send such items registered or recorded - and opt for the item to be insured, that way if something goes walkies, you can get your money back although it is a drawn out affair.

  11. i dont know what its like in the uk but in ireland (should be pretty similar) if its not sent by registered post or swift post etc. they cant be tracked
