  1. Man, I'd call the cops before I send my SSN out.  This sounds like a serious scam.

  2. it's a scam.  a bank would never send you a letter and tell you to mail back you ssn and name.  don't do it.

  3. That sounds like a phishing scam.  Do not respond.  They are looking to steal your identity.

  4. It sounds like a scam to get your ss# and name.  If you have to conduct any business with your bank, do it in person at your bank and not over the mail.  Your bank has no need to get this information from you since, they already have it.  The IRS already has this information and would also not have a need for you to provide it to them.  The only people who want this information are criminals who are looking to steal your identity. Do not write this information down on a piece of paper to mail it or else you may be a victim of identity theft.  God luck.

  5. Sounds like scam to me....identity thieves have become so creative nowadays there is no telling to what lengths they will go. Deal directly with your bank and don't call any of the numbers on the letter. If the IRS was accusing you of fraud they woulda picked you up themselves!
