Question:

Letter on the Sheriff's desk?

Someone apparently saw a letter on the local Sherriff's desk with my husband's and my names and address on it, and it freaks me out. I have no idea what it could be. Assuming that the person wasn't just lying to be a jerk, what could something like that be? A subpoena maybe?

  1. The person who told you this might be jerking your chain.

If there really is a letter on the Sheriff's desk with your name on it ... it could be a lot of things.

Lost property that was turned into the office.

Information from the Sheriff's office that you (or a relative) requested.

One envelop of many as part of a mass mailing of some sort.

Personal reference forms for one of your friends or relatives that want to work for the department or apply for a handgun permit.

    There are so many possibilities!

They would usually keep subpoenas and warrants in the civil section of the department, and fairly secure.  Doubtful that someone just passing a desk would find it.  The department wouldn't hang onto that type of information any longer than necessary ... those papers would be served to you before you found out about them from another source.

  2. No one here will know the answer to your question!  You'll just need to wait and see if you get it!

  3. Small town or Large town, all paperwork on a Sheriffs desk is private. I think that person was lying to you, did you do something wrong to expect some legal papers?

  4. They are probably lying.  Any thing on a sheriff's desk is considered to be private.  What were they doing looking at it, how did they get into the sheriff's office to see it?  These are just a few questions that bother me.  If your name is on any thing on the sheriff's desk, the sheriff would not let it be out when he was dealing with someone else.
