Question:

Letter paper to novel paper ratio?

I am writing a story and it is currently around 19 pages single spaced in Microsoft Word. I am hoping to get it published, but I'm worried it won't be long enough. So I know that the pages in novels are smaller than standard letter paper, so how can I figure out how to calculate the letter page to novel page ratio?

  1. First, it is better to get into the habit of writing in DOUBLE-SPACED format.

You should be writing in Times New Roman 12 point.

You can get a rough estimate of your book format page count by calculating the number of pages by 250.

Standard format is 25 lines per pages x 10 words per line = 250 words per page.

You should have some kind of idea who you want to submit to for publication, then study their guidelines and while you should write the story you want to write, keep in mind that you might have to tweak it a little bit to meet a publisher's guidelines.

  2. Finish your story first. Please.  There is time to figure all the technical stuff out later.  You will be doing editing and rewrites and all kinds of stuff before you get to this part.  Talk to someone who operates a small press.  aqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq---Wilson says HI! silly cat.
