I thought it is coz it has something to do with the sense...if it really is...what is the science concept that children will learn?

  1. I think that it is because you are right children are learning about senses they can not only taste but also smell, touch, see and feel the food. They can also make a prediction of how it might taste and then make observations and draw conclusions.

  2. Yes it is !

  3. they are making observations, just like they would if they were feeling it.

say you are studying rocks.  you would ask for the characteristics of the rock, things like, what color is it?  is it smooth or rough?  is it heavy or light?  is it all one color of many?  does it have spots?  etc.  i would say it is definitely scientific to collect observations and discuss the characteristics of certain foods.

  4. it is a sensory activity.  talking about tastes, textures etc. after tasting differnt foods and make a chart with the kids responses!  FUN!

  5. yeah...because it help to test the taste buds function..

  6. It can be if they do something with the experience and the information.. This is a tremendous opportunity to build their vocabulary with words such as sweet, sour, salty, spicy and tart. You could also graph their favorites or rank the food by sweetness or sourness  or make a like/dislike chart. Make cooking part of the process and let them observe the changes and help with the measuring.

  7. Hey, what a great sneaky way to get kids to try veggies!!!

Tell them they are little scientists and we have to taste what cows eat and vote on which ones we like the best, or

whatever else you can dream up as an excuse.

  8. They are learning about their senses. Also about sweet vs sour, salty , bitter etc.... Also observing the food first, talk about , what do you think it will taste like? What it looks like, where it grows etc....

  9. that will help them with different taste , smells and textures.   it is hard to get them to try different stuff since i have 2 kids that are so picky everything looks gross.  when they finally taste it they like it. so i think learning early to eat everything will help them in the future with being healthly.  new mom of two, 3 and 4 yrs old.  good luck with science and food

  10. it can be, but only if you talk about what they are tasting.  if you put it on a plate and just give it to them no it is not.  in order for it to be a part of science or instance you have to put sugar and salt on the plate and have them taste the difference.

sweet pickes and sour pickles is great.

also use different colors like broccoli and carrots

  11. It is science they will learn if the food is hot or cold; sour; sweet; bitter or salty. hard or soft. Just be sure that there are no allergies to the foods you intend to bring.

  12. Tasting something new can be looked at as a new 'experiment' if you like.  Science is all about experiments to prove the fact

  13. It is a science activity, on the grounds you are teaching them how it grows or where it comes from. You can also have them help you make it. It can also cover most of the senses. Sight, taste, smell, and touch. Ask the children what is looks like, maybe point out other colors or shapes that are similar. Talk how each child likes the food. You can even make a graph on how may boys and girls like and dislike the food. Sell the food, who likes the smell and who doesn't. Their are many concepts to teach the children, from hand-washing before the activity to working with others during and clean up after. This is one of my favorite things to do with the children, make peanut butter and apple butter. The children w/o allergies make the peanut butter and the children w/ allergies make apple butter.

  14. My daughter did an activity like this:

First they painted/colored in a giant tounge.

They learned about where on your tounge you taste sweet, sour, salty, etc.

They sampled different foods - they made predictions about how the food was going to taste based on prior knowledge (pretzels are salty)

They sorted pictures of the foods and glued them onto the tounge they colored in the right location for that taste

Observation, predicting, sorting, are all science as well as the biology.
