Lettuce - why does my cat eat lettuce/Is lettuce good or bad for cats?

Question

I eat a lot of veggies and one day I was done with my salad and set my plate aside and there was some lettuce left and then the cat went and finished off my salad.. why would a cat do this, I thought cats were meat eaters (strange cat..) - is lettuce good or bad for cats.. I try not to let the cat eat off my plate again, but sometimes if I drop any by mistake the cat will come and chomp down on the stuff - it's strange.. So I need to know if it's ok to let the cat eat it or not?? thanks

cat do like eat green leaves every now and then when they feel as it is good for their digestive system, it also relief them from hair balls.  Cats are meet eater like you said but they get to eat seeds, leaves that are trapped in the stomachs of their preys . Cats do eat grass in the wild as well , ( lions do !)

you can find Cat grass in pet stores that you can keep for your kitty to nibble .

just want to ask you to make sure that there is no sauce on it as it may contain onion, spices, garlic which arepoisonouss and could stress her stomach.

Hehe, If you buy cat grass, to save some money, you can cut up the roots of the grass and put them in pots and they'll grow!

It'll save money!!

But to answer you question: It's good. The cat felt it needed some greenery in it'd diet. Cat's are finicky eaters, and you cat wouldn't have eaten it if he didn't find it was up to his (picky) standards.

Hooray - it's good to know there's another cat in the world that eats lettuce! Mine chomps into it all the time - I used to think he was just displaying weird behaviour, but really, cats DO need greens in their diet. When they're outdoors, cats often eat grass, but an indoor cat (like mine) has to be given greens. He loves cooked spinach, too!
