  1. Haven't actually witnessed anything but seen the results driving past or on the tv. Why people take those kind of risks with level crossings is beyond me.

  2. 103

  3. None but I have seen many people drive through the signals and arms, it is because everyone is in so much of a hurry today.

A crossing accident happens about once every 90 minutes in the US.

  4. Far too many close calls. People are always in such a huge hurry, and think they can beat trains to the crossing. They don't realize that trains can't stop on a dime, and when you tie, you lose.

I worked in a building next to a railroad crossing for many years. There were near-misses almost on a weekly basis. And the crossing was equipped with lights, bells, and gates. Motorists simply drove around the lowered gates with trains bearing down on them.

I have actually seen pedestrians climb aboard slow-moving or stopped trains, and jump off the opposite side to avoid having to wait.

Unfortunately, it's probably not going to get any better. As long as people feel they have to get where they're going in record time and cannot waste a precious few minutes, they're going to continue getting killed.
