The Bundesliga outfit will now go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland to tackle the former German midfielder’s failure to take part in a doping test last year because of sickness.
Bayer Leverkusen will need to pay a fine of €25,000 after it was revealed on Sunday that former Germany national team captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 did not undergo an inspection in September 2011.
The recently retired star has been in the media for the wrong reasons. Before this, he was fined for over speeding. However, he also stated his desire to continue working in football and has stressed that he will get a coaching
badge in the near future.
The former Germany international missed the routine drugs test a day before his former team lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich last season because of health issues. The veteran attacker at first agreed to go to the National Anti-Doping
Agency (NADA) but then opted against the decision.
The German club decided to tell the agency as soon as possible, but under UEFA regulations any developments are to be informed immediately in writing. The Factory Squad faxed the progress to the authorities almost an hour later.
The Lions irresponsible behaviour will cost them a hefty fine after failing to follow the protocols of UEFA. Nevertheless, the Bay Arena side’s official Meinolf Sprink claimed that they will appeal against the sentence.
The club spokesman further added that the Bundesliga outfit have agreed on the fine, but reserve full right to fight the offence. He conceded that they should have followed the rules and informed UEFA about the situation immediately,
as they now face a huge fine over the incident.
"Bayer have accepted the sanction. [But], we will defend ourselves,” the official was quoted as saying in an interview
“We should've acted responsibly. The inspectors on site were informed immediately," he finally concluded.
Sprink revealed that they let the inspectors know soon after the event. The court proceeding will now take place on November 30 at the Court of Arbitration of Sport in Lausanne, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904,
netting 42 goals in the process.
