Bayer Leverkusen director Wolfgang Holzhauser revealed that his club rejected an offer for Andre Schurrle from Chelsea.
Following his impressive showing at the 2012 European Championships, the Bayer Leverkusen dazzler has been the subject of intense speculation. At just 21, the youngster has a total of 16 appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904; he also boasts
a good scoring record by bagging seven for his country.
He joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2011 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166, where he started learning his trade after joining them as youth player. He broke into the Mainz first team at just 18-years of age.
The winger’s impressive displays for his club did not go unnoticed as the former Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt quickly made an approach for him. Leverkusen snapped up their man 6.5 million pounds, and he signed a five-year deal
with the club.
Reports were circulating in the media that big European club was interested in acquiring the talented playmaker’s services. The club turned out be Chelsea, Werkself’s director Wolfgang Holzhauser revealed that his club received
an over 20 million Euro bid from the London based side.
After some serious consideration and discussions, the West London club’s bid was rejected. The director insists that no money can persuade them to sell their prized asset.
"We have received a very concrete offer from Chelsea for Andre Schurrle worth over €20m. Both clubs shoved figures back and forth for a while, but we eventually opted to hold on to Andre," he is quoted as saying in an interview.
Holzhauser maintains that a player of Schurrle’s quality is worth keeping, because in his opinion he is almost irreplaceable due to his age and talent. According to the director, the player himself claimed that he was very happy
at the Bayer Arena would like to stay.
"Andre has too much importance for us on the pitch [to let go of him]. He has also made it very clear that he is happy to stay with us," he added.
Bayer Leverkusen did the right thing by rejecting http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s bid. Following Barnetta’s departure, the club are not in the position to ship out their attacking players. In future, Schurrle will be worth much more than the 20 million
Euros that Di Matteo’s side offered.
