The German giants have parted ways with Robin Dutt and have appointed former player Sami Hyypia as their new manager until the end of the season.

Hyypia expressed his delight on being given the opportunity to manage the first team and insisted that he believes the team can qualify for Europe at the end of the campaign. The former defender added that the team has been low on confidence after the disappointing performances in recent weeks.
The Finn claimed that he knows all the players as he has been at the club for some time now and insists that he can revive the team in the last few games.
“I know the team and firmly believe in it. We - Sascha Lewandowski and I - want to show Bayer Leverkusen how to get back on track. It is an unsettled team that has not taken its chances in recent weeks. But, having been at the club for the past three years, I have an advantage in that I know the players,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, club director Wolfgang Holzhauser stressed that the club had to make a decision after the recent round of poor results. He admitted that the fans want to end the current season on a high and qualification for the UEFA Europa League is crucial.
“We had to act and to make a statement to pursue our goal of international football for next season with fresh energy,” he concluded.
Sami Hyypia will manage his first game against Hamburg SV on Sunday, April 8, at the Imtech Arena. They have to finish in the top six in order to qualify for Europe.
