Levi LaVallee and Robbie Maddison to attempt record jump at New Year Eve
Two action sports athletes have made up their mind to make history on the eve of New Year, i.e. December 31. Professional snowmobile rider Levi LaVallee and Freestyle Motocross (FMX) ace Robbie Maddison have revealed that during the 2011 edition of “Red
Bull: New Year. No Limits”, they will be attempting to jump over 300 feet of water in San Diego Bay, California, which would be a new world record if successful.
The existing world record for distance jumped on a snowmobile is 361 feet, which was set by LaVallee last year while practising the feat for the 2010 edition of “Red Bull: New Year. No Limits”. However, he ended up injuring himself during an evening practice
session while looking to perfect the stunt, which consequently cancelled the stunt scheduled for 2010 New Year’s Eve.
This year, the Longville-based snowmobile rider is looking to beat his own record. Talking about the anticipated stunt, LaVallee said, “I am so pumped to be able to come back to Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. Last year obviously didn’t go the way I was hoping,
and I am excited to have another chance at this amazing opportunity.”
Australia’s 30-year-old Maddison is pumped to perform the same stunt as LaVallee, but on a motorcycle instead of a snowmobile. Beating the 391-foot world record for distance jumped on a motorcycle will definitely not be an easy thing to accomplish, but the
professional rider is feeling confident and aiming to go past the 400-foot mark.
In his interview to a reporter from a leading sports network, Maddison said, "Jumping long distances is a passion of mine, and I'm excited to come back for New Year's Eve and sail over San Diego Harbour. Four-hundred feet is my goal. It's not all about getting
the world record to me, it's more about understanding this feat and the commitment ahead to achieving what most would consider an impossible jump."
With seven Winter X Games medals to his name already, LaVallee hardly needs more proof of his skills on a snowmobile. However, jumping over 300-feet of water and that too with a huge margin not only requires skills, but also lots of courage. Maddison has
already exhibited his fear-less attitude quite a few times in the past, which includes a 32-foot jump over a football field in Las Vegas in 2007 and following it up with a jump off the 96-foot-tall Arc De Triomphe at Paris Las Vegas.
The New Year’s Eve promises to be a memorable moment for not only the two athletes but also anyone who will be present at the site to witness history in making with their own eyes. LaVallee and Maddison look all set to set a new benchmark in the world of
action sports.
