Levi-Leipheimer ready to continue with his terrific form in 2012
American cyclist, Levi Leipheimer is ready to welcome the 2012 year after a perfect finish to his 2011 season. The American secured a solid 26th position at the UCI individual rankings as per October 2011.
The cyclist joined Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step for a period of two years, he will ride with the new team for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
It is believed that the next two years might mark the end of a sensational career by the cyclist.
Leipheimer started his professional career in 1997 with Team Comptel and finally joined Team Astana in 2008. He stayed with the team for a period of one year and moved to Team RadioShack in 2010.
The 38-year-old performed exceptionally well during the period of two years spent with Team RadioShack.
The American squad failed to find a sponsor for 2012 and decided to end its existence at the close of the 2011 season.
Levi finished first overall at the Tour of the Gila and also secured an overall victory at the Tour of Utah in the 2010 season. He secured two stage wins and a 3rd overall win at the Tour of California 2010.
His second year with Team RadioShack was even more successful as he won the 2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge, along with stage 1 and stage 3 victories at the event.
Levi was the overall winner of Tour de Suisse and the Tour of Utah 2011.
The cyclist commented on the coming season, “The first thing I let Patrick Lefevere know was just how important US races were to me. Especially California, which starts in my home town next year. He’s totally into that because the team wasn’t invited to
California this year and they wanted to go in 2012”.
He further added, “They’re looking forward to it. Mr Bakala, the team owner, spent a lot of time in California and we have sponsorship interest there”.
Even at the age of 38, the cyclist is still performing his best and he is fully prepared to take on the 2012 season with a definite spot at the Amgen Tour of California 2012.
