Lew Wolff dismisses any idea of Oakland Athletics in Sacramento – MLB News
The Oakland Athletics’ co-owner Lew Wolff has rejected all speculations which linked his franchise moving to Sacramento.
"We are not leaving the Bay Area, and that's the end of it," Wolff said via phone with complete determination.
However, the very idea of A’s in Sacramento has been presented by the city mayor Kevin Johnson who desperately wants a sport franchise in the city after the National Basketball Association (NBA) club Sacramento Kings potentially planned to move towards Anaheim.
On the other hand, the A’s officials have been quite busy resolving issues with Major League Baseball authorities to give them permission to move to San Jose. However, the territorial rules clarify that San Jose comes under Giants territory which is the main reason why the A’s management still awaits a decision from MLB.
A’s owner Wolff, who has said couple of times before as well that, "The only focus we have is San Jose," still receiving offers from Sacramento’s city mayor Johnson.
Johnson discussed some of the facts why his interest has developed for bringing the A's to Sacramento and said, "I respect Lew Wolff and John Fisher and the rest of the A's current ownership, and I understand they have to be laser-focused on San Jose, And I know my good friend Jean Quan is going through the process to try to keep them in Oakland. Should those options not materialize, we want to send a message to the A's and Major League Baseball that Sacramento is a great baseball town."
Johnson is considered one of the most hard-worker government officials and certainly an enthusiastic sports lover as well.
Since the Sacramento Kings had given their intention to move to Anaheim, the city officials are looking for another pro sports franchise while as soon as they knew about A’s potential efforts for San Jose, they made offers to the owners for a potential move.
On the other hand, Johnson has always been busy doing different things for the city. His initiative “Think Big” is already developed into a very positive plan.
Having a Major League team in the city has the same purpose of exploring the viability of bringing more jobs as well as development in city’s economic growth.
