Lewis Brown’s included in New Zealand Warrior squad facing Brisbane Broncos – Rugby League
New Zealand (NZ) Warriors have recalled Lewis Brown as a reserve for their Saturday, August 6, National Rugby League (NRL) encounter against the Brisbane Broncos at the Suncorp Stadium.
Although Brown has been named on the 5-man bench reserves, it is yet not clear whether he will be marching into Saturday night’s clash as the 18-man squad officially released by NZ Warriors may be subject to change. There is still one omission from the squad
expected.
Other than this inclusion, the remaining squad is the same as the match-winning squad against the Raiders, which was registered as their fourth win. The squad is closing in on a chance to book a spot for themselves in the finals ahead.
This is going to be Brown’s first appearance for the Kiwi club, after he had injured his ankle badly during the initial minutes of the clash against Gold Coast, on July 8. In lieu of his injury he missed out the previous three victories bagged by the Warriors
against the Canterbury Bulldogs, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canberra Raiders.
Last Sunday, he was called up by the Warriors as an extra on the squad. This recall by the franchise was made, after he had played for the Auckland Vulcans against the North Sydney in win of 40-20, for the New South Wales (NSW) Cup clash.
There are a few positions for which Brown may be considered. There is a possibility that he will be used to fill in for their skipper, Simon Mannering, whose knee-injury amidst Sunday’s Clash against the Raiders, left him trouble walking.
The second-rower is hoping to assume the spot which was previously held by Joel Moon. It was confirmed by Moon that he will join the Salfords , which is the Super league club, as his contract with the Warriors expired a day ago.
The NZ Warriors are sitting on the sixth spot in the NRL ladder with twenty-six points. They are just two spots above the Newcastle Knights and the Wests Tigers. On the other hand, Broncos are floating on the fourth spot within the hierarchy.
Ivan Cleary, the head coach of Warriors stated, “We've been able to pick up four important wins over the past month but going to Suncorp Stadium to face a side playing as well as the Broncos are presents a real step up.”
The home side is also looking forward to Saturday’s match as their captain, who already holds the record for playing most games from the same franchise, will meet another milestone of his career. He will reach the mark of 349th match in the Suncorp Stadium,
paralleling Terry Lamb and Steve Menzies.
