Lewis Burton prevail over Lorenzo Giustino in the qualifying competition – Istanbul Challenger 2012
World number 492nd Lorenzo Giustino received a straight sets shock at the hands of British contender, Lewis Burton in the final qualifying round of the Istanbul Challenger 2012, held at
the hard courts of Turkey. The young Brit consolidated his 6-3, 6-4 triumph over his opponent on Monday.
The 20-years-old British contender commenced the set at a reasonable pace and brought the 1-0 lead in score line. However, both the players were very ardent to get into the driving seat and evened out the scores
to 2-all in the fourth game. From that point onwards, the Brit took a flying start and broke Giustino’s serve in the sixth game to claim a 4-2 lead. The British then stamped forward and secured his 6-3 win in the opener.
Burton smashed five aces against the opponent and double faulted only once. He had a comparatively better first serve accuracy of 68 percent, converting 18 of 26 points. The Italian contestant had a moderately
lower first serve of 42 percent, with seven of 10 points. The only reason for Burton’s lead was that he was ready to secure all the three break points presented to him, whereas his rival failed to attain any.
In the following set, the 21-year-old Italian candidate was unable to hold his initial serve in the match and the right-hander British professional grabbed the opportunity to mark is 2-love lead.  He glided forward
with immense passion and broke the Italian’s serve in the fifth game to lead by 4-1. Giustino tried his best to prevail over but seemed powerless, closing the set with a 4-6 loss.
The Italian was unable strike even a single ace against his rival and had an average first serve precision of 53 percent. He also secured 11 of 18 points with one of three break points. Burton had 71 percent
serve accuracy, winning 21 of 30 points and six of seven break points.
The British challenger exhibited his excellent game plan since the start of the tournament, defeating all the odds in straight sets. He has never participated in any major championships but he aims to improve
his current world rankings at the end of this year!
