Lewis Hamilton: Careful driving may cost him points
The McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton is cautious and calculative as he makes his strategy for the upcoming race in Japan. The next round of the season is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Suzuka Track.
The British driver has faced three retirements in last four rounds which have dropped him to the third place in driver’s championship from his initial top place. Now, as he moves to the next round, he seems cautions not to let such an end repeated again.
McLaren is well aware that this part of the season wouldn't allow any more poor finishes. Another single mistake, no matter how minor, could prove fatal for Hamilton’s hopes for the title.
This situation brings a big challenge for the driver, in terms of his driving skills as well as his psychological test. The last two retirements of the aggressive racer were seen because of his eagerness. Therefore, he knows that he has to be careful now
but at the same time, the situation is so critical that he might need to take a few risks to move ahead in the championship tally.
At present, the twenty six year old has a total of 182 points under his belt as he stands 20 points adrift the chart leader, Mark Webber while the second place has been secured by Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who has bagged 191 points all together.
Now as the Formula One caravan moves ahead for the next round, the chocolate skinned driver seems adamant to snatch away the top position in order to come back to the championship more strongly. Last year, Hamilton had finished the Japanese Grand Prix at
third place on the podium. However, this year he keeps his fingers crossed as he goes to the track determined to come home with another twenty five points.
While expressing his fears as well as aspirations for the upcoming race, the struggling driver said, “Suzuka is very much unfinished business for me.” He added, “I raced the best I could last year, but our car just wasn’t fast enough. This year, I’m holding
nothing back - I need a strong result to get my title hopes back on track, and that will be my complete focus from the moment I first sit in the cockpit on Friday morning.”
Earlier, the round in Italy ended right at the first lap for Hamilton as he made a poor over taking move on Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa and leaped into the gravel with a broken steering. Moreover, Singapore Grand Prix also ended for him as he collided with
Webber while the two contested for the third place on podium.
But now, as he proceeds for Suzuka, he hopes that the dark shadows of ill fate are over for him and he would meet some luck this time. While talking about the race and the track, Hamilton stated, “It’s a real driver’s circuit - you need to be committed and
precise to do well there, and there’s no room for error either: no tarmac run-off and all the barriers are pretty close, so any mistake is going to hurt your chances big-time.”
The champion concluded saying “Now is not the time to hold back; now is the time to fight.” Following the Japanese Grand Prix, only three more rounds would be left and there is yet a long way to go for the McLaren man. Another threat for the team at this
moment comes from the incomplete Korean track where the final inspection of the newly built track would be done on 11th Of October. If it fails to meet the standards of FIA, one race could be reduced from the calendar, diming the chances of McLaren
even further.
