Lewis Hamilton: I want to win the championship – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the races ahead and wants to win 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
The Briton set the best time in the qualifying of Spanish GP on last Saturday. However, he was disqualified from the pole position as he failed to meet the minimum fuel requirement in the car before moving back to the pits.
Even though, he set off from the last place in the grid, nevertheless, the 2008 world champion managed to secure 8th position in the race with just two pit stops. Afterwards, he expressed that he is proud of his performance and the efforts his team in the
season until now.
Furthermore, he said that he is focusing on scoring reasonable points in each and every race in the upcoming season in order to make his position stronger to claim the title. He also said that he could have been on top of the drivers’ standings by now if
he had started the race from the pole in Barcelona.
“I'm not looking at the bigger picture at the moment, I'm just looking at the season, and I want to win the world championship,” Hamilton is quoted by the Daily Mail. “Of course, these last five races with the situations I've been in has not helped. We could
have a healthy lead in the championship right now if we had capitalised on the performance we've had in qualifying.”
It will be important to mention that the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that although he suspected that the fuel may run out before Hamilton would get into pits. However, he wanted him to be on pole so he made a call to keep him on the
track. Nonetheless, he admitted that they committed a mistake and accepted the stewards’ verdict.
On the other hand, Hamilton said that they will strike back in the approaching races and said that he is feeling pleased with his performance in the last race.
“We've just been unfortunate, and at some stage things will come together for our team and we'll get the points we deserve. At least I can say I was happy with my race,” he said.
