Lewis Hamilton: McLaren need to score points consistently in the 2011 Formula 1 season
The 2008 Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has recently stated after a disappointing Turkish Grand Prix that his team needs to score points consistently in the ongoing 2011 season rather than take too many risks with their car development.
McLaren has been the only team up until now that has been challenging Red Bull Racing Team in terms of pace. The team did not have a very decent pre-season testing period before the 2011 Formula 1 season as they were unable to test their new car after they
released it at the second pre-season test session.
However, the team revealed its car’s true pace at the season opening race that took place in Australia where Lewis Hamilton qualified in 2nd place in order to secure the 2nd place during the race behind Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull Racing.
“As always, we're fighting to bring lots of new parts to the track, and it isn't always possible to run them - either from a performance or reliability point of view. Even before first practice, we knew we were going to have to scale back our ambitions on
the development front for this particular race,” Hamilton told the media.
Lewis believes that in 2011, the championship will be won through consistency as a result of which his team is planning to score good points in the long run rather than come up with a short cut for a limited pace boost.
Other than that, he talked about the new rules and regulations and admitted that these rules have affected racing in a positive way.
“Sure, you don't always win - and sometimes the system actually works against you, because it can make you vulnerable when you're the car in front - but, in general, I like the new rule-changes this year,” he added.
Hamilton is currently in 2nd place just 34 points adrift of the drivers’ standings leader Sebastian Vettel who is leading by 93 points after scoring a perfect qualifying pole-setting score.
