Lewis Hamilton: McLaren should investigate Bahrain GP pit stop issues – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that they need to investigate the problems happened during the pit stops in 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held at Sakhir on April 22, due to which he lost some crucial points.
The 2008 world champion was running at second place before he took two pit stops because of some mechanical issues in MP4-27 as a result of which he dropped to eighth position and could only score 4 points.
Moreover, when he was asked by Sky Sports that whether there would be a need of an investigation of the problems, he said, “There should be. We gave a lot of points away today, which is what championships are lost from. We have to try and make sure we pick
it up from the next race because we can't afford to lose points like we did today.”
Furthermore, he said that he has not been able to perform at his best over the weekend in Sakhir.
“There weren't many positives for me today. The four points is the only positive I can take away from today. My pace wasn't great. I really struggled to look after my rear tyres through the whole day,” he said.
On the other hand, Martin Whitmarsh, the team principal of McLaren said that during the first and second pit stop of the British driver they changed the rear wheel gun’s mechanic which caused the delay.
He added that as compared to Hamilton, his teammate Jenson Button didn’t face any issue in the pit stops during the race.
Nonetheless, he stated that they will surely investigate all the problems being faced in the pit stops.
Hamilton has secured third podium finish in the opening three races of the season and he is currently standing at second position in the drivers’ championship.
Besides, he has expressed that he is targeting to score some reasonably points in the every race and to perform with consistency throughout the season. In addition, he said that he is prepared to make the necessary sacrifice in his personal life so as to
give the due attention to his F1 career.
