Lewis Hamilton admires Fernando Alonso for his sheer speed – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he admires Fernando Alonso of Ferrari the most amongst all the other drivers in the field because of his sheer speed.
Hamilton was Alonso’s teammate at McLaren in 2007, but they never really get along well with each other and the Spaniard left for Ferrari just after one season. Nevertheless, their relationship has become very good and the British driver believes that the
two-time world champion is unmatchable in the sport because of his incredible speed.
“It's funny, but the driver I admire most is Fernando for his sheer speed, his simply incredible speed,” he told the Daily Mail. “I don't think anyone can match him in the sport.”
It is to be noted that even though Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing won his third consecutive drivers’ championship in 2012, but many drivers believe Alonso to be the real hero of the last season and Hamilton is one of them.
In addition, the Briton said that although he had some troubles with the 31-year-old during the start, but they have become matured as drivers and respect each other very much. Besides, he stated that he is quite good at developing good relationships with
his teammates, however sometimes it is extremely hard to stay out of trouble.
“Now I'm older, I'm sure we would have a different relationship. There would still be intense moments because we are both quick, so we would be very close to each other, but we've both matured a lot. I think I'm much better at nurturing relationships between
team-mates now. It depends on the drivers. Put Sebastian with Fernando Alonso and the team would be in trouble straight away, the chemistry would just,” he added.
At present, Alonso is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 47 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull and behind his major opponent, Hamilton. He has faced some reliability issues in two out of first four
races of the season due to which he failed to score competitive points for his team. Nonetheless, his hopes are high and it will be exciting to see how he performs in his home race this weekend.
