Lewis Hamilton admits it is extremely difficult to catch up Fernando Alonso – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that it is extremely difficult to catch up Fernando Alonso of Ferrari in the championship fight regardless of winning the Hungarian Grand Prix during the last week.
Hamilton completely dominated throughout the weekend in the Hungarian GP at Hungaroring Circuit in Budapest as he claimed his third pole position of the current season leading to his second victory.
At present, he is at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 117 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and is behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Although, he scored a tremendous win in the preceding race, however, he is still far behind Alonso who is currently leading the standings with 164 points.
Therefore, the Briton said that in order to close the gap to the front they need to score more points than the Spaniard in each and every race ahead which is very challenging.
“To claw that gap back from Fernando, we will need to finish ahead of him pretty much everywhere which is going to be insanely difficult,” the 2008 world champion said.
Furthermore, he said that after facing problems in the last three grands prix, he is feeling very much delighted to take the victory in the preceding race.
In addition, he said that he has always focussed on winning and is targeting to perform at his best in the forthcoming races so as to score as much points as he can to win this season’s championship battle
“I definitely needed it especially after the last three disastrous races. It was a really, really great day. But I came here this weekend stronger than ever. Even though we had a really disastrous race in the last one I came here with the intention of winning.
I always come with the intention of winning but in my mind it was so set. I was really pumped,” he added.
Above and beyond, he said that he is very keen about the summer break and hopes to come stronger after the smash in the approaching season.
