Lewis Hamilton aiming for podium finishes in 2013 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton, former McLaren driver and moving to Mercedes in 2013, has stated that his main aim for the 2013 F1 season is to secure podium finishes.
“Everyone has to have a change,” Hamilton told. “It is about growing, doing something different and learning to communicate with new people. I know what I am doing. We all have to takes risks in life. The target next year has to be podium finishes.”
The British driver had made the decision in September this year and it had shocked many among the F1 community. However, Hamilton has repeatedly denied that he is leaving McLaren due to some kind of rift with them. He has stated that he is looking for a
new challenge and Mercedes is perfect for that purpose since it is in real need of race victories. Hamilton has said that his ambition is to bring success to Mercedes. Recently, the driver has also added that he might be returning to McLaren sometime in future
as he considers it like his home.
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, is of the opinion that it is a mistake and very risky for Hamilton making this move. However, the whole team was very gracious in bidding farewell to their long term and championship winning driver. On the other
hand, there were also speculations about Hamilton having some disagreement with the team’s executive chairman Ron Dennis. Dennis has already come clear on this issue stating that he wishes Hamilton all the best for his future.
On a previous occasion, Hamilton had confessed that victories will be hard to come by in 2013 given the condition of Mercedes car but Ross Brawn, team principal of Mercedes, has stated that they plan to provide equal opportunities of winning to Hamilton
and his teammate Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton’s father, Anthony Hamilton, has stated that he expects his son to win at least two or three races in the coming season. He said that he believes in the combination of the Mercedes team and his son. He said that if his son cannot do it then certainly
the car is in really bad condition.
