Lewis Hamilton and McLaren look to make history at Monza
McLaren, the team that has not been out of the news for even a single day all throughout the season is looking forward to creating more drama and thrill at Monza next week.
Currently, the British team stands at second place in the Constructors’ Championship having bagged a total of three hundred and twenty-nine points. Red Bull is hanging on to the top spot by one point, with three hundred and thirty points all together.
Before the team heads for the next race, Formula One’s official website talked to the team about their apprehensions and expectations for the upcoming race.
Jenson Button, the title defender of the season has good memories to cherish from his last year’s race at the track as he was able to stand at second place on the podium in 2009.
Button recalled his last week at Spa where he was forced out of the race due to a poor move from Sebastian Vettel, which left the driver pointless. He now proclaimed, “Obviously, my non-finish in Spa wasn’t ideal for my championship aspirations, so I head to Monza next weekend determined to put myself back in the hunt for the title”.
He was happy as the team has made some further developments in their car which already performed very well last week. Now Button expects that the further upgrades would enhance their performance even more.
While talking about the track he was excited that Monza is always a great race venue with its low down-force and incredible long straights that allow great speeds.
On the other hand, the other McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, who currently stands at the top of the charts, was able to end last year’s race at Monza in 12th place.
However, he is optimistic for next week as he has shown great form all through the season and especially the conquest of Spa last week has given him confidence and motivation.
While talking to Formula One’s official website he proclaimed, “Our victory in Belgium showed that, as a team, we never give up, and that we’ll always bounce back from adversity feeling stronger and more determined than before. This team has such an incredible fighting spirit - we strive to win, and I hope that Spa is only the start of a run of stronger form for us as we head into the final races of the championship”.
Monza is one of the most incredible circuits of the Formula One calendar and surely one where every driver desires to win. The other three very important circuits are Monaco, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, where winning has always been considered very prestigious. There are only eight drivers in the sport’s history of sixty years, who were able to win a race on all of these four tracks during their career. Hamilton, who has already conquered the other three, is now looking forward to a win at Monza as well next week, thus listing himself among the most successful racers in history.
At the same time the McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has also expressed a lot of hope and expectations as his team prepares for the next battle on one of the most famous motor sports arenas.
Moreover, the team has come up with some further developments with the car, “Even though, on paper, the Monza circuit’s characteristics appear to suit our package, developing a car that performs well on one of the most unique venues on the Formula One calendar is no easy job”.
Well, a week and two more days to go and the cars would be rallied at Monza for a head to head battle. The top three teams Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari are all ready to put the maximum of their efforts to take the title crown.
