Lewis Hamilton and his “personal problems” cost him the 2010 drivers’ title
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton gave an outstanding performance this year statistically as he finished just 16 points behind the 2010 Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel in 4th place. Lewis was looking pretty good in the first half of the 2010 Formula
1 season but it seemed that both of the McLaren drivers were unable to perform consistently later on as it was quite clear that the two McLarens were not up to the mark as compared to Ferrari and Red Bull in the second half of the season in terms of pace and
consistency.
The 2008 champion was unable to score some very important points and even though he retired in 3 races in the second half, Hamilton still finished in a decent position in the drivers’ standings. However, Lewis cannot blame anyone but himself for this result
and if it weren’t for his immature manoeuvres on the track, he would have easily won the 2010 drivers’ title.
Lewis Hamilton recently revealed that he was having some “personal problems” in his life and apparently, that was the main reason why he failed to perform in the second half of the 2010 season. He stated that he was trying to expel “distractions” from his
mind.
“The personal life, the way things have gone have not been as smooth and as happy as they could have been in the past and to do what I do is a combination of many, many things that are surrounding you,” Hamilton told the media.
The young British driver was not going deep into this topic and it seemed that he was reluctant to talk about it openly. It is believed that he was referring to the complications he had with his father Anthony, who had always been his manager throughout
his career.
“It's not just arriving at the race track and driving, it's your appearances, it's your mood swings, it's the people that are around you - your family and your friends - and the time that you are able to give to them and the relationship that you have with
them,” he added.
However, one has to admit that Lewis did perform pretty well this season but definitely, that is not how he has been and many believe that McLaren was also aware of his problems. It seems that that is the reason why the team has not been so harsh on him.
“I look at the likes of Tiger Woods. He's had many, many things that have had an impact on him this year, but he still plays, he still pars it, he still gets birdies. But that to him is a bad year, but to other people when everything is right he is amazing,”
said Lewis.
