Lewis Hamilton anxious to challenge the Red Bull in Malaysia – Formula 1
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes, who was second to Sebastian Vettel’s first position, wants to give the Red Bull team a tough time in Malaysia. Hamilton was able to score 18 points in the 2011 Formula 1 season’s first Grand Prix with a broken floor board
on the under-side of his car. He was almost 11 seconds behind the reigning world champion Vettel but still believes that he will be able to close the gap in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton damaged his car’s floor in the 40th lap of the race but still managed a podium finish. Talking about the car he said that, “it was definitely not as bad it probably looked. I am so happy that I brought the car home with a really
great result.” Hamilton brought the car back to the pit but never gave Vettel a tough fight after his car was damaged which meant that Vettel had an empty track to drive. Hamilton was disappointed about the fact and said about his team, “I am sure they’ll
keep on pushing and I hope at the next race we will be out there to challenge the Red Bulls even more.”
After having a miserable pre-season testing session, the McLaren team has done well to bring their cars in the top ten as Jenson Button finished sixth behind Mark Webber. Button started well but was penalised for an over taking manoeuvre against Ferrari’s
Felipe Massa and had to drive thru the pit lanes which compromised his position.
Apart from Button’s drive thru penalty, both McLaren cars only did two pit-stops each and had a good mileage on the soft and hard Pirelli compounds. Talking about the Pirelli tyres, Hamilton said that a lot was feared of the tyres but they did a good job
as most of the drivers only did two stops to change the tyres. Hamilton also appreciated the movable rear wing and the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) and said that their use is real easy and will do well in the coming races.
The next race is due in two weeks in Malaysia on the 10th of April.
