Lewis Hamilton begins working at Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton, who is going to leave McLaren at the end of 2012, has started working with the engineers of Mercedes for the 2013 Formula 1 season, according to The Sun.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to expire at the conclusion of this year and he signed a new multi-year deal with the Silver Arrows where he will be replacing the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher in the next season. Moreover,
he will drive alongside Nico Rosberg who has been his very good friend right from their days of karting.
On the other hand, the seven-time world champion has taken retirement from the sport. Furthermore, McLaren has signed Sergio Perez of Sauber as Hamilton’s replacement.
Even though, the 2008 world champion is not yet allowed to involve in any kind of technical development programme by the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh. However, the reports have stated that the British driver has already started working with
his new team’s engineers at Brackley on the simulator.
“F1 rivals reached an agreement which allowed Hamilton to meet his engineers at their Brackley HQ last week and rack up some vital miles on the race car simulator,” The Sun reported.
Furthermore, Norbert Haug, who is going to step down from the post of head of Mercedes motorsport at the end of this year, has said that the 27-year-old has already visited their factory.
“Lewis has already been in the factory to see the team and fulfil some duties after we found an agreement about that with McLaren,” Haug said.
Hamilton has been considered as one of the most competitive drivers in the sport and has delivered some remarkable performances in his career so far.
Additionally, he has been at McLaren from the last 14 years and has developed a sound affiliation with every team member. Thus, it will definitely be very difficult for him to leave his team.
Nevertheless, he is positively looking forward to the new challenge and is aiming to deliver his best in the next season. Let’s see whether he will be able to attain his objective or not.
