Lewis Hamilton believes Lotus can win 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes that Lotus have a perfect chance to claim their first victory of the season in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix.
Lotus pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean secured second and third podium finishes in the Hungarian GP and gave a tough to Hamilton who eventually took his second victory of the current season.
Afterwards, the British driver said that Raikkonen and Grosjean would have won the preceding race if they had qualified for the front grid slots.
“We were quick but if both Lotuses had qualified on the front row, they would have won,” said Hamilton. “It would be nice to have a comfortable race where we stay ahead and me and Jenson can get a one-two. But that's only going to come from more performance
in the car and that's what we've got to work towards.”
Furthermore, he said that they are aiming to come up stronger with some essential updates in MP4-27 in the season ahead as he believes that the Enstone based team are going to give every other contender a tough time with their innovative double DRS upgrade.
“I really hope we have another upgrade in Spa. I've no doubt that Lotus will win at some stage, if not in Spa, so we have to make sure that we make a step as well as they do,” he added.
At present, Lotus are standing at third position in the constructors’ championship with 192 points and are just a point behind their main rival, McLaren. Besides, they are ahead of Ferrari, however, the defending champions, Red Bull Racing who are currently
leading the rankings have a strong lead over the British team.
Meanwhile, Grosjean is at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 76 points and is sharing his position with Jenson Button of McLaren. Additionally, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and is behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
On the other hand, his teammate, Raikkonen is at 5th position in the drivers’ rankings and is just a point behind the 2008 world champion.
Above and beyond, the tussle between McLaren and Lotus in the race ahead will be very exciting to see.
