Lewis Hamilton believes McLaren can match pace with RBR in 2011 Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes his team can match their pace with Red Bull Racing in the 2011 Korean Grand Prix, which will take place on October 16 at the Korea International circuit.
After setting the fastest time in the Free Practice 2 at the Korean racetrack on October 14, the Brit admitted that McLaren have the pace to challenge Red Bull Racing team in Sunday’s race.
Hamilton took a good start to the 2011 Korean race weekend, as he topped the FP2 with a time of 1 minute and 50.828 seconds ahead of all drivers.
After the practice session, he stated that he believes they can stop Sebastian Vettel to take a pole place for Sunday’s race and also challenge him in the Korean Grand Prix.
The 2008 world champion commented, “Jenson showed in the last race that we can be very, very competitive, so I have no doubt that we will be out to challenge them. Whether or not we can outdo them in qualifying, which has not been done all year, will be
interesting.”
He went on to mention, “Today is not a particularly important day and I heard the next two days are going to be much better, so today is kind of irrelevant set-up wise and all that kind of things. Tomorrow we'll get a much better feel for where the car is
at. But if it rains we are in a good position, so that's a positive.”
The 26-year-old driver was again in a competitive form at the Korean racetrack in the final Practice session. He set the second fastest time of 1 minute 37.199 seconds behind his teammate Jenson Button, who topped the FP3 in Korea.
The team driver is aiming to put on a decent performance at the Korea International Circuit in the qualifying round, which will take place on Saturday, October 15.
McLaren are sitting at the second place with 388 points in the 2011 championship battle at the moment.
Let’s see whether McLaren drivers manage to beat Red Bull Racing team both in Qualifiers and the Korean Grand Prix or not.
