Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes are still facing tyre degradation issue – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that they are still facing tyre degradation issue and insisted that they must work hard to come up stronger in the season ahead.
Hamilton performed tremendously well in the qualifying of the Monaco Grand Prix and secured second grid position. However, he failed to make the most out of his qualifying result in the race and could only secure 4th place finish after losing two places
because of the safety car incident.
On the other hand, his teammate, Nico Rosberg successfully scored his second F1 victory in Monte Carlo after attaining his third consecutive pole position.
Despite showing an impressive pace in the preceding race, the British driver believes that they still need to resolve their tyre management problems in order to perform well in the forthcoming races.
“Monaco is one of those tracks that doesn't really hurt the tyres very often,” Hamilton confirmed. “With good management you can look after them, so I wouldn't really say we have made a step forward. The problems we had in Barcelona, we'll still have those
going forward until we make some improvements.”
In addition, he stated that he is really happy with the team’s progress in the season so far. He also said that they are looking forward to keep on making the essential step-ups in their car so as to score more wins in the season ahead.
“There's a really good feeling in the team at the moment,” he added. “We're continuing to work hard to make sure we have the potential for more victories this season.”
Meanwhile, Mercedes motorsport director, Toto Wolff has said that they have set some realistic goals for the Canadian GP and are eying to achieve good results this weekend.
“Here in Montreal we have realistic expectations about what we can achieve,” Wolff said.
Currently, the Silverstone-based squad are standing at 4th place in the constructors’ championship with 109 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Force India and behind their main rival, Lotus. Let’s see how they perform in the approaching race at Circuit
Gilles Villeneuve on June 9, 2013.
