Lewis Hamilton believes title fight is still on – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that the fight for the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship title is still on and he is keen to perform at his best in the second half of the current season.
Hamilton is presently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 117 points. Moreover, he has performed tremendously well in the season so far and has scored two race wins.
Although, he is 47 points behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently leading the drivers’ rankings with 164 points, however, he has asserted that the title fight is still open and he is positively looking forward to close the gap to
the contenders in the front in the forthcoming races.
Furthermore, he has said that he has made the essential preparations to perform well in the Belgian Grand Prix which is to be held at Spa-Francorchamps.
“Given the unpredictability of the sport, I think it's still difficult to predict accurately who'll win the next grand prix, but I reckon the coming few weeks ought to give us a much clearer idea of the destination of the world title,” he said. “It's going
to be an extremely tough, tactical and interesting finale to the season. There's no team with a clear advantage - although we're all pushing hard to catch Fernando [Alonso]'s points tally in the drivers' championship - so there's still everything to play for.”
Additionally, he said that even though, he struggled to attain competitive points in few grands prix. Nevertheless, he made a striking comeback in the Hungarian GP in which he scored an amazing victory.
He added that he has gained a lot of confidence from his remarkable performance in the preceding race and is eagerly targeting to score more points in the season ahead.
Besides, he said that they have planned to launch some essential updates in their car so as to improve its pace in the approaching races and is aiming to make the necessary evaluations in the free Friday practice session of the next race.
