Lewis Hamilton claims McLaren in a strong position before heading on to Spa – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has recently stated that his team is in a strong position statistically before heading on to the Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix as the team has secured the victory at the past two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“I think we go into the race weekend in a pretty good place, we’ve won the last two Grands Prix and the car feels strong; we’ve worked hard to improve the set-up, so it’s really inspiring confidence at the moment, which means you can push it that little
bit further, particularly in qualifying,” he said.
He claims that Spa is one of his favourite tracks and after staying out of action for such a long time, the drivers are going to be thrilled to drive at such an exhilarating circuit as it is one of the greatest circuits in the whole world.
“Corners like Eau Rouge, Pouhon and Blanchimont are fantastic, just because they’re so fast, Pouhon, in particular, is incredible, because you’re really at the limit of the grip level, and you’re gently playing with the throttle and trying not to scrub off
too much speed with the steering,” he added.
Other than that, he stated that the conditions at Spa-Francorchamps are quite unpredictable as a result of which the whole race weekend is quite dramatic and entertaining.
The teams on the other hand go through a very tough time as the track requires a very vast and versatile setup along with a very good and efficient race strategy.
Either way, Hamilton is quite excited about racing once again as Formula 1 was on a month’s break before the Belgian Grand Prix and now, he is hoping to maintain his momentum in order to capitalise on his rivals Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and Fernando
Alonso.
The championship is on a very tight turn at the moment and it is very important for McLaren to score good consistent results in order to have a chance of having a go at the championships this year.
