Lewis Hamilton claims Mercedes not quick enough in Hungary – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton has claimed that Mercedes are not quick enough to compete at the front in the Hungarian GP.
After the end of the Friday practice sessions, the Briton, “We don't seem to have the pace that we had at the last race, but we'll make some changes tonight and try to understand. As I said, we came into the weekend on the back-foot trying to understand
the tyres a bit, we did a lot of laps today so we have a lot of information to look at and take into tomorrow.”
Mercedes have been extremely quick during the ongoing season, especially during the qualifying sessions. Their drivers have been dominant over a single lap run, which has caused plenty of problems for rival teams. However, the biggest issue for the team
was the deliver positive results on race day.
After conducting a private test with Pirelli, the German outfit finally managed to get on top of their tyre problems. They thought that all of their troubles were over, but this was just a beginning for them, as rival teams protested against the private
running, which was illegal as per the rules and regulations of the FIA.
Due to that, a ban was imposed on the Brackley based team, which restricted them from taking part in the Young Driver Test. Although they looked content with the situation early on, things got worse for them, when the tyre manufacturers were asked to provide
new rubber to the teams during the Silverstone test.
As a result, all of the other teams have got better understanding of the tyres than Mercedes. However, Hamilton was still hoping for some good luck and said that he would try his best to post a strong qualifying result.
The veteran driver said, “Fuel loads play a huge part and when we get to qualifying we are generally able to pull out a little bit more.”
However, he added that the Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel appeared to be too quick at the Hungaroring and it would be an extremely difficult job to beat them.
