Lewis Hamilton claims the MP4-26 was at its top performance during the German Grand Prix
The 2008 Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton recently secured his second victory of the 2011 season at the German Grand Prix and claims that the MP4-26 was at the top of its performance.
“I think every win is special but I think the emotion and all of the energy that the team put in to the car and the effort they've put in, when you don't see results like this I think it slowly builds up,” he said.
The race took place at the legendary Nurburgring circuit which is a high-speed track and it seems that McLaren were able to pull off a great performance and a great car setup. The team failed to score a good performance during the Friday practice sessions
but the qualifying session went great for them.
Lewis quite unexpectedly scored the 2nd place on the grid and he was just five hundredths of a second short of Mark Webber’s pole position scoring time.
“We really never expected to come here this weekend and be so fast. We were hindered in the last race a little bit but the guys did a fantastic job pushing really hard, even the guys back in Brickworth (engine facility) at HPE pushing very very hard, and
the engine was great,” said the former world champion.
Nevertheless, this should be the first of many this season if McLaren want to secure the drivers’ title at least and since Sebastian Vettel’s performance is deteriorating quite noticeably, it seems that Ferrari and McLaren should strike now and probably
try their best to close the points’ gap as much as possible.
Hamilton is now in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings with 134 points while Vettel is leading the championship with 216 points. This means that Lewis is currently 82 points behind the championship leader. With just nine more races left, McLaren
and Ferrari should now step on the accelerator and score consistent points without any break.
