Lewis Hamilton clarifies over accident at Spa – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton has given clarifications over his collision with Romain Grosjean of Lotus in the first lap of 2012 Belgian Grand Prix and said that he couldn’t avoid the accident.
Hamilton was at turn one at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps while Grosjean came drifting across him towards the inside and collapsed into his car. Momentarily, the French driver hit Fernando Alonso of Ferrari as the car took off over the backside of Sergio
Perez of Sauber. Resultantly, all the four drivers had to retire from the race and failed to score even a single point.
Moreover, when the 2008 world champion was asked about the whole situation, he responded that it can be witnessed that he had no place to go and was surely not in a position to avoid the incident.
"It's clear. It should be clear. I couldn't go anywhere. There was no one in front of me and no one behind me, I was kind of on my own and up against white line and that was that," he said.
Furthermore, the Briton expressed that he was very concerned about the Spaniard, Alonso who was in a very critical position as the Lotus driver came near to his head. However, he said that he is feeling relieved that everyone is safe and didn’t get any major
injuries due to the accident.
In addition, he said that he struggled throughout the week in Belgium but now he is aiming to turn his weaknesses into his strengths in the season ahead and is eying to score points with consistency so as to win the championship title this year.
"I've got a bit of bruising on leg but I was more concerned for Fernando because it was incredibly close for him," he added. "Fortunately nobody got seriously injured. The whole week has been tough one so I'm looking forward to turning negative energy into
positive. The car is clearly quick and I hope we can get some good results at next race."
The Briton has come down to fifth position in the drivers’ championship and is now behind the Finnish driver, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
