Lewis Hamilton confirms his move to Mercedes – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has confirmed that he is going to move to Mercedes in 2013 as the replacement of Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton has been surrounded by a lot of speculations that he was in negotiations with the Brackley based team before the Italian Grand Prix. At last, the British driver has put an end to the rumours and has recently confirmed that he is going to leave the
Woking based team after this season and will join the Silver Arrows in the coming year.
The 2008 world champion has signed a three-year contract with Mercedes and will be driving as Nico Rosberg’s teammate in the next season. He has said that he is looking forward to a fresh challenge and is feeling really excited about the new opportunity
in his career. Furthermore, he admired the legacy of his new team and said that it has an incredible history in the sport.
“It is now time for me to take on a fresh challenge and I am very excited to begin a new chapter racing for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team,” Hamilton said. “Mercedes-Benz has such an incredible heritage in motorsport, along with a passion for
winning which I share.”
In addition, he said that he is hoping to perform at his best with Mercedes and will try his best to win the championship titles in the coming years.
“Together, we can grow and rise to this new challenge. I believe that I can help steer the Silver Arrows to the top and achieve our joint ambitions of winning the world championships,” he added.
At present, the Briton is standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 142 points. Besides, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and is behind his main rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
Even though, he has not been able to score even a single point in the last race as he faced a gearbox issue due to which he has lost some crucial points in the championship fight. Nevertheless, he is positively looking forward to score wins in the remainder
of this season.
