F1 Lewis Hamilton crashes once again!
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is still optimistic about this year’s drivers’ title despite his second retirement in a row dipping 20 points off from the championship leader Mark Webber after the Singapore Grand Prix.
It was lap 35 when the British driver tried to pass the current drivers’ standings leader Mark Webber but made a huge mistake and collided as he came across to hit the apex of turn seven. Hamilton did not blame the Australian driver but felt that he left
enough room.
"I'm still not exactly sure what happened with Mark and me. But, telling it from my point of view, I saw that he'd made a mistake and had got caught up with the backmarkers, so I was in position to slipstream him. I was on the outside going into turn seven,
and he was in my blind spot, just behind me”, he said.
Hamilton thought that he had a sufficient amount of space to overtake Mark. Lewis claims he braked, turned in and tried to leave the championship leader enough room on the inside but the next thing he knew was that he had got clipped causing his tyre to
blow. However, he quoted the saying “that is motor racing”.
He added that he is still hoping to chase the title race-by-race and is trying to close the gap between himself and Webber. Hamilton stated he is just 20 points behind Mark Webber and that is a reasonable margin nevertheless, it is achievable.
“I guess I'll just have to keep my head down and hope for the best. I'm not going to think specifically about the world championship right now, I'm just going to try to enjoy the rest of the season - and whatever happens happens. But I'll keep fighting
to the end, because it's the only way I know”, said Lewis.
McLaren’s team principal Martin Whitmarsh did not blame Lewis Hamilton, as he defended his move on Webber and even hinted that the championship leader was to blame.
“Lewis drove a great race. We reckon he has good reason to consider him rather unlucky, since he appeared to have pulled off a sound overtaking manoeuvre only to be bumped out of the race by the car he had passed. But I guess that's motor racing”, he said.
He told the reporters that Lewis along with the whole team were disappointed. However, the team believes that they lost a small battle, but not the war, and they would reunite for the fight for both, drivers’ and constructors titles.
This has affected the team and Lewis drastically as Lewis moved from 2nd to 3rd place in the drivers’ standings behind Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari and Jenson Button moved from 4th to 5th place in the drivers’
standings. The team is now 24 points short of Red Bull. This was Lewis Hamilton’s second retirement in a row and his 4th retirement of the season. With pointless finishes at the Italian and Singapore Grand Prix, the British driver is stuck on 182
points. One the other hand, Fernando Alonso won two races in a row at Italy and Singapore and Ferrari is becoming a hazardous threat for McLaren and Red Bull. Red Bull damaged McLaren’s championship chase severely. Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber finished
in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Jenson finished behind the Red Bull’s in 4th place scoring alone 12 points for his team and himself. The Japanese Grand Prix is next on the Formula 1calendar that will take place in 2 weeks
time. Nevertheless, both of the drivers are within the championship’s reach. The team vows to perform at its best in the coming 4 races in order to achieve both the drivers’ and the constructors’ title for the 2010 Formula 1 championship.
