Lewis Hamilton decides to move on before heading into the Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
The 2008 Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has said that he has decided to move on before heading into the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix which is scheduled to take place this weekend on June 12, 2011.
The McLaren driver had a disastrous Monaco Grand Prix as he collided with Felipe Massa and Pastor Maldonado during the race after which he was given a penalty. Soon after, Hamilton ‘joked’ around with the stewards by telling them through the radio that “maybe
they gave him the penalty because he’s black, that’s what Ali G (a character from Hollywood) says.”
After the incident, he had to apologise to the stewards and later on, he had to apologise to Maldonado and Massa as well since he called both of them “ridiculous” through his official Twitter account.
“Last week, coming back from the grand prix I had some time to reflect on my behaviour and my weekend, and just a feeling of it being a bad day in the office. I wrote a letter to the FIA to apologize and spoke to the drivers. I felt that was necessary to
do, and it was the right thing to do, to put it behind me,” said Hamilton.
He added that this is how racing is and when a driver wants to be competitive, these sorts of things happen. He praised the stewards as he believes that they are doing a great job.
The McLaren driver also stated that he does not want to face or get involved with the stewards so often before claiming that he took the experience positively.
“While I would prefer not to be in the stewards' room too often and I am trying, my whole life I was always in the headmasters' office, so I am used to it and try and learn from situations I get myself into,” he said.
Since Hamilton has been ‘a good boy’ regarding this matter, the officials and the stewards did not take any action against him and they thanked the former champion for understanding his mistakes.
