Lewis Hamilton defends his management over Bernie Ecclestone’s comments – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has defended his management team at the backdrop of some scathing comments from the F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone tagging the Brit’s management as disastrous.
Ecclestone directed the blame for Hamilton’s poor show during the 2011 season towards his management and said that he was being influenced by people he should not be influenced. He also suggested that Hamilton’s father was a better manager for him.
Hamilton’s XIX management in 2010 and had a torrid 2011 season which Bernie suggested was mostly because of his off track influences. He was disappointed at a number of celebrities abusing their guest status. He further pointed to the Ice-T incident where
the celebrity - who was a guest of McLaren – was seen prancing around other teams cars shouting lewd remarks. That is the kind of behaviour that Hamilton can get influenced from even though he would never have met these sorts of people if he was still being
managed by his father.
“I think he had some personal problems during the year which affected him quite a lot,” Ecclestone added. “A lot to do with these things, it depends an awful lot on the people you surround yourself with, and who are in a position to influence you.”
Hamilton has said that the blame towards his management has been hugely misdirected and that his performance dip has been due his own actions and not of anyone else.
”It is my fault really,” Hamilton said. “They've wanted to be here every single race, they've been nothing but supportive. I control it and I decided not to have them at every race because I wanted to be on my own at some races. For the future I'll have
them at every race.”
It remains to be seen how Hamilton performs in the 2012 season, and whether he has been plagued by the same sort of influence Ecclestone is pointing towards or is it something to do with the driver’s own mindset. Looking at the final races of the 2011 season
it seems that Hamilton may finally be coming back to form.
