Lewis Hamilton disappointed after FP2 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of the McLaren team was disappointed after his pace reduced in the second free practice of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix while he had dominated in the first one.
Hamilton had been able to set the quickest pace in the first free practice session with his teammate Jenson Button right behind him at the second place. The McLaren drivers dominated the track successfully leaving behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and his
quickest car on the grid at the third place. However, Vettel improved his pace in the second session overcoming both McLaren drivers and set the pace at 1'41.751.
“It's been an interesting day,” Hamilton said. “We got through quite a lot; we seemed quite good in P1 but P2 was a bit of a struggle for me.”
He thinks that the team might have been struggling due to problems regarding the switching of the tyres but still that is uncertain.
He said, “Potentially, yeah. I don't really know. It's very difficult to get the time out. We had quite a good time on the prime and then people seemed to be finding 0.8s on the option, but I wasn't able to get any time on it so perhaps it's about switching
the tyres on.”
Hamilton believes that it will be brilliant if they are able to achieve a pole in the qualifying and start the race from the front this Sunday but the team should not set their hopes too high as he still believes that Vettel’s car is fast enough to beat
them. He also complained about some traffic issues he suffered on high fuel in the second session stating that it becomes really difficult to complete your time and get a gap when there is someone driving in front of you.
Vettel, on the other hand, has taken notice of the quick pace set by the McLaren drivers which he had to struggle against in the first session. He believes that Red Bull will have to look out for the McLaren cars on the track in the race and that they will
be posing as a strong competition against them.
