Lewis Hamilton disappointed after the British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton says the British grand Prix did not end the way he wanted to finish in front of his home crowd.
Hamilton struggled throughout the weekend with the pace of the car. He was not able to qualify in the top five finishing 8th and had to fight for 8th place finish during the race.
The weather during the race was clear and did not have any rain as expected. Hamilton did well to move up early on and went as far as second place behind Fernando Alonso but gradually lost his way down the grid.
The race was mostly dominated by the Ferrari’s and the Red Bull cars. Mark Webber won the race followed by Alonso while his team-mat Felipe Massa finished fourth. Bisecting the two Ferrari’s was Sebastian Vettel at third.
Both Hamilton and Button found it hard to manage the tyres and keep the pace of the car up to speed with the leading cars of the grid. Although Hamilton said that when he was battling it out with Alonso for the lead his tyres were managing quite well but
then suddenly he started to drop off Alonso’s radar and moved down the positions. He admitted that it is something that he does not quite understand at the moment.
“I raced my heart out and was flat-out right to the end. We're still in the hunt for the world championship - and, if we can find a bit of lap-time, we can stay in the hunt, too. I gave the fans a little donut on the slow-down lap - simply because I wanted
to say thank-you to everyone who came out to watch us here today. I'd love to have done better in my home Grand Prix, but, regardless, the fans were fantastic throughout the weekend,” he said.
Hamilton is now falling down in the drivers’ standings as well the lead between him and the leader Alonso has now ballooned up to 37. The competitiveness in the season has been very high and that means it will be very difficult for the Brit to close the
gap between him and Alonso.
