Lewis Hamilton disappointed at the tyre allocation for the Friday practice – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton says that the biggest concern on his mind during the Friday practice session of the British Grand Prix was the safety of the crowd.
The British GP is looking to be marred by rainy weather conditions and the Friday practice was exactly how it was forecasted.
Silverstone had an estimated 80,000 people attend the practice session which is a record on a Friday and on a day with heavy rains. The city is already trying to deal with the traffic congestion caused somewhat because of the fans coming in for the practice
session.
Hamilton said that he was not much concerned that he was not able to test out its new parts but was more concerned with the tyre allocation which did not allow him to put more pressure on the car for the fans.
“We didn't get to test the components but we had some fun out there; we still got to do a few laps,” Hamilton said. “For me I was just concerned for the fans. There were so many great fans here today and I don't remember ever seeing so many on a Friday.
Unfortunately it was terrible weather and also we don't have any tyres - well not enough tyres - to go out and keep them entertained.”
“I just really appreciate the support that we're having so I hope that they just keep warm and stay strong, because it's hopefully going to be a good weekend,” he added.
The temperature during the session was around 15C and Hamilton admitted that the tyres were not getting warm easily. He did however manage to set the best lap time for the day.
He added that McLaren is doing a good job and being the fastest car on the grid is not so important at the moment. The conditions are such is that speed is not the main attribute required to win the race. The qualifying is what counts according to Hamilton.
It will be interesting to see how the qualifiers go tomorrow for McLaren. Mercedes is another team that looks really strong ahead of the race and tomorrow will decide how the race will pan out.
