Lewis Hamilton disappointed even after securing podium finish at Australian GP – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton had an impressive start to the season as he finished third in the Australian Grand Prix, yet the Brit was unhappy over the result.
Hamilton was bested by his teammate Jenson Button who also took the win on Sunday. Both Button and Hamilton started the race place at the front but the latter had a horrible start to the race and could not manage to close in on the gap throughout the race.
After the race, Hamilton admitted that he was not able to catch up to Button who was flying to the finish line. He said that he really could not understand why he was unable to match the pace of his teammate.
“He'll come away disappointed,” Martin Whitmarsh said. “He wanted to win and not winning and being beaten by your team-mate is never going to make Lewis happy. The day he becomes happy with being third and behind his team-mate, he won't be the Lewis that
we know and love.”
“He was very unlucky with the safety car and the start and the fact is he was utterly brilliant yesterday and knows he's got the pace as well. He'll be disappointed but he'll get over that by tomorrow morning, bounce back and by next weekend he'll be more
determined to put it on pole and win that race,” he added.
This is just the beginning and there is ample time for anyone to make their mark in the season but Hamilton will now be wary of his teammate who is in prime form. The race has determined McLaren and Red Bull to be the favourites of the season since Ferrari
are struggling to come to grips with their complex car. Mercedes are third in line to be in contention.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out in Malaysia a week from now as the second Grand Prix of the season unfolds. The different climate conditions may play a major role as higher temperatures will change the tyre strategies and the best-managed
tyres might finish the line in a better position, but those are all predictions.
The race is scheduled to be held on March 25, 2012.
